Back from the UK he allegedly tried to blackmail his uncle, threatening to confirm the theory that the paternal grandfather, the father of Alois Hitler Sr., was the Jewish Leopold Frankenberger. In 1939 he moved to the United States, became a US citizen and served in the navy during World War II. He died at the age of 76 in Patchogue, New York, and is buried in Coram.
