Studies on prehistory have never stopped, here comes a new dinosaur, the most giant so far among the discoveries made. We are talking about the Mamenchisaurus sinocanadorum which lived about 160 million years ago in China.
According to scholars it is the specimen with the longest neck ever to date, in fact only the neck measures 15 meters , a prehistoric giant as big as a palace. The international research team in New York worked closely with the Natural History Museum in London. Later they have been in contact with Zigong Dinosaur Museum and the Chinese Academy of Sciences and also other high structures collecting various information. The first specimen was discovered in 1987 in China.
What has been found are a few vertebrae, a jaw and some skull fragments, the idea is to compare some anatomical characteristics between those of this specimen and those of other similar specimens and therefore it was discovered that the length of the neck was really exceptional.
These dinosaurs for having such long necks, had a very light bone structure. The bones were hollow and had air sacs to aid in respiration. The neck, the longest existing at the time, allowed it to reach trees and plants that no other specimen could reach, evolving over the years.
