The found nugget was nicknamed ” Welcome Stranger” and weighed 72 kilograms and its length was 61 cm, its weight was on average as much as that of an adult man.

The miners took the nugget to the town of Dunolly to be weighed at the London Chartered Bank. The nugget was too large and could not be weighed as it was and was cut up before being photographed, it was later melted down into various gold bars. The two men received around £10,000, today such a nugget would be worth around £2 million.
